I had a check up on Wednesday and everything went well. I'm was way excited that my blood pressure was back to it's normal of 92/56. It's not like the 110 was bad just not what I'm use to seeing. Urine was fine I guess - they never tell me what those results are. And just a side note - FYI this may be TMI for some but...- I find it harder to provide my sample due to my belly being in the way, it's hard to see around it. I may have to start using the hat's they have in the restroom to make it easier. Ok enough of that... Baby's heart rate was 142 and I'm right at the 20 pound mark on my weight gain. Hope I continue on this track because that would put me around 25 pounds at delivery.
The doctor again went over signs of early labor and when to call or go to the hospital if I experience any of these symptoms. We also talked about some of his practices during delivery involving episiotomies and use of vacuum or forceps (questions I thought about after having our childbirth class). Finally, we talked about my next appointment in 2 weeks. I'll have my Group B strep test and it'll be the first time he'll assess to see in what position baby girl is in. After that appointment he'll start seeing me weekly. He didn't mention if I'll get checked then but it wouldn't surprise me if he did. So, getting closer...at times it doesn't seem like I should be this close to the end now but then at other times it seems these last few weeks are dragging on.
This weekend we plan to go to Rogers, Arkansas for a church meeting. Shhh....don't tell my OB. He said I couldn't travel after 28 weeks but to me that seemed a bit early and I personally don't count a 3 hour drive a full blown trip. This is the last thing we have planned that involves any distance and I made sure there was a medical center in Rogers...which is across the street from where our meeting is, and it's only an hour and a half to Tulsa and another hour and a half to Mercy (in OKC where I'm delivering). Plus, if something were to happen, I'm sure Jason would cut down on those driving times quite a bit. :) However, just as a way to insure nothing will happen, we're bringing our car seat along. I figure that if I was prepared I wouldn't need it and if I came unprepared...then, well, that's when we'd need it. SO, I'm not worried and I'm looking forward to a fun weekend seeing a bunch a people we only get to see once a year plus I get to show off my belly!
Next Thursday is when my parents come to town for my showers. I'm so excited to see them because I haven't seen them since April and I was just barely showing then. They've seen pictures of my belly but they'll really get to see it and feel her move around when they're here. I can't wait! Also, my Mom's birthday was this past Thursday so we'll celebrate it while they're here too. It'll be a packed fun-filled weekend!
Have a great weekend everybody!

33 weeks 4 days
Found this on other people's blogs so I thought I'd do it too - especially since I don't have any bright ideas for a blog post at the moment. :)
How far along: 33 Weeks 4 days - 45 days until my due date!
Total Weight Gain: As of my last check up 2 weeks ago - 18 pounds
Maternity clothes: Most of the time. I still use my gym shorts or anything with a stretchy waistband and t-shirts. However, the t-shirts have to be my bigger t-shirts.
Stretch marks: Not that I've found
Symptoms: Foot/ankle/lower leg soreness. Last week my calves felt like I had put them through a 3 hour work out the day before because they were sore! Ate more bananas and it helped. Each morning when I get out of bed, my first few steps are a bit stiff but overall I do well throughout the day.
Most recent Doctor’s Appt: Good - blood pressure was good although I was bummed because it was the first time I was over 100 on my systolic. I'm proud of my low blood pressure I have. Everything else doing well - baby's heart rate was in the 130s
Best Moment Last Week: My birthday! My husband and parents went together and got me a massage for my birthday and we also went out to eat with friends and got a gift card from my cousins to NY&Co to use once I have the baby and received some birthday money from my aunt and uncle and in-laws.
Movement: Pretty regularly but there are times when she's napping and doesn't move as much. I worry because it never fails that around 10:30pm as I'm getting into bed, she get's really active and I hope that isn't how she is when she's here. I won't be able to sleep through it like I do now! :)
Food Cravings: Random things - some days popcorn sounds good, or ice cream. I always look forward to drinking a Cherry Coke Zero. I try to only have one a day.
Belly Button in or out: Still an innie I'd say but pretty flat.
What I Miss: Running. Jason and I go on walks regularly but I miss being able to go for a jog.
What am I looking forward to: Our baby showers. My parents are coming to town for them and it looks like we'll have 3 showers in 3 days. It'll be fun!
Milestones: Buying the car seat. We are going to a church meeting this weekend (it's 3 hours away) and I think we'll take it just to have it. I don't want baby girl to come this early but in the event something happens, at least we'll be able to get her home.
How is Daddy?: Doing good - he's getting excited too I think. He likes to lay his head on my belly and feel her move around.

Check up and classes
I had a check up last week that went well. Very uneventful again, which is fine with me. I had only gained a pound from my last visit 2 weeks ago which I was fine with since I gained like 5 at the previous appointment. I'll continue to have 2 week appointments for another month then switch to weekly appointments. Can't believe that I'm close enough to be thinking about weekly appointments. It seems like I have way too much to do before she gets here (like pick a name - Jason and I are so non-committal). I had my work scheduled blocked for the 2 weeks prior to my due date in the event baby girl makes her apperance early. I'll still work the OR and clinic but just won't have my own schedule of patients - I'll just help my doctors in clinic with their schedules.
This past weekend I drug Jason to child birth classes. I think he tolerated it ok...it was mainly for him to know what would happen and what to expect but in this instance, he may have just preferred to find out as we went along. I learned a few things myself and refreshed my memory on others I had learned in school. I have a few questions for my doctor to see what he does in his practice in relation to induction, episiotomies, etc that I'll ask next week when we're back to see him.
Other than that, just working and sort of getting the nursery together. We've painted and the furniture is in the room. I got my blanket yesterday for the day bed we're keeping in the room to match my crib bedding. It matched wonderfully and so now I can't wait to get my crib bedding which may be ready by the end of the week or early next week! Yay! Once more of the room is put together I'll get pictures on here. In 2 weeks is when my parents will be in town and we'll have 2 showers while they're here so I'm sure the room will start filling up. This is the fun part!

Shower
We had our first shower over 4th of July weekend where Jason grew up in western Oklahoma. The ladies at church sponsored it and we had a lot of fun. We received a lot of clothes, some blankets, diapers, wipes, and Jason recieved one of the best gifts of all...a tool belt outfitted with all things baby. It was great! Here are just a few pictures from the shower.

It Could Only Happen To Me
So, all in all I've had a very uneventful pregnancy for which I'm grateful for. Only had a few minor sick moments, haven't dealt with any infections or illness myself yet (knock on wood), and have been able to do all the things we normally do without problem. So, something had to give and since I didn't have any of the normal pregnancy woes, my body went out and found some weird obscure problem that rarely happens.
My day had started like any other day. It was a Monday (May 10th) which means surgery day. So I got up, got ready and was at the hospital by 6:15am. Pretty normal for a Monday - didn't have an overly packed schedule which is nice for Monday since we usually get left over surgeries from the weekend which makes for a busy, hectic Monday but this one wasn't too bad. I went around and got all the paperwork/orders ready to go for all of our patients who were up first for surgery and then went to grab some breakfast before we got started.
I was helping our residents get the patient back into the operating room, the anesthesiologist had gotten them asleep, and we were working on positioning the patient when "it" happened. As I was working I noticed a sudden ringing and muffledness in my left ear. Wasn't too unusual at the time, I just felt that my ear needed to pop or that I had some fluid in it or something. So, I go about trying to pop my ear, waiting for it to get better and it didn't really change. Then, I try to use the phone and I could tell I wasn't hearing as well in my left ear but still heard things (although muffled) from it. Thinking I just had some fluid build up or something, I texted my good friend who works on campus at the children's ear, nose, and throat clinic seeing if I could come by at some point for her to look in my ear. "No problem" she said and I figured I'd go by at lunch.
I had to go back to the clinic to see a patient who was coming by so I headed over there to see them. I would say it took me about an hour from when my ear first started acting strange to when I got done seeing my patient in the clinic and over that time, it seemed like the ringing sound increased a bit and the ability to hear anything diminshed. My ENT friend had called me while I was at the clinic and had talked to one of her doctors who felt it was important to be seen as soon as I could get there to have a hearing test. So, after I finished at the clinic, I went to see them.
My good friend looked me over and asked again what all had happened and if I had been around any loud noises, etc. when it started. "Nope, it was just like someone turned a switch off in that ear," was my reply. She didn't see anything abnormal on my exam so I was off to a hearing test. That experience was fun. Not that it's hard but the whole time they are playing beeps for me I kept thinking I wasn't hearing very well from either ear which makes you worried. Well, we get done and the audiologist comes in with the results saying my right ear is completely normal but the test showed a complete sensorineural hearing loss of my left ear meaning the nerve that let's me hear sound isn't working.
I meet with the doctor after this and he again goes over my results, showing me a graph with my completly normal right ear at the top and my completly abnormal left ear at the bottom. I ask what caused this to happen and they can't really tell when this sort of thing happens. Three possibilites include: 1) the blood supply to that nerve has been disrupted and caused it to not function, 2) it is an autoimmune process causing that nerve to not work, or 3) it's a viral problem on that nerve. So naturally, I ask what can we do to treat it if it is autoimmune or viral. Normally the treatment is high dose steroids for 2 weeks or more but since I'm pregnant, he was hesitant to say that's what I should do. He's more for a watch and wait approach. Okay, so what are my chances that this will come back? "Minimal," he says and that's only if it returns within the first week or two and can't really tell to what degree it will return. After that, he said unlikely to get it back. Since he's a pediatric ENT doctor, he wanted me to go see one of his partners on the adult side of things so I head over to that office to be seen there.
Meeting with the new doctor, he says pretty much the same thing as the first. The possible causes, treatment options (which he also didn't want to do due to my pregnancy), and likelyhood of it returning. I was scheduled to see my OB in 2 days so I asked him if my OB was ok with the steroid treatment, could I get them to call it in. He said that would be fine but also said even with treatment, the chance of my hearing returning isn't great. I understand that but also didn't want to not take it if I could and always wonder if I had, would I get my hearing back. Overall, I'm dealing with this whole thing fine - thinking that worse things could happen and if this is the the worst of it, I can deal. Jason on the other had was a little more upset and felt somewhat helpless since he couldn't do anything to help the situation. He also was more worried that something would happen to my right ear and we'd really be in trouble. Not to say that it can't happen but it would be rare to affect my right ear too.
I see my OB on Wednesday and tell him what happens. He had no problem with me taking the steroids. He said that he has used them before on patients who develop Bell's Palsy (a different problem affecting the nerves of the face) during pregnancy. He too wasn't very optimistic for my hearing to return but he also told us he had seen weirder things happen. He thinks I may have a chance (however so slight) that it may improve once I deliver. The way he explains it is that your body is harboring a foreign thing which puts stress on you and sometimes something's gotta give - and in this case, my ear. So, possibly once the baby is born and I don't have the stress, it may return some. But he was sure to tell us that we shouldn't expect it to get better, just be thankful if it does.
So I took steroids for 2 weeks and haven't had any change. I was suppose to go back to the ENT but decided to save my money because I didn't need to go for an office visit just to tell me somtheing I already know. Once I have the baby, I'll go back for a repeat hearing test and get set up for an MRI of my head to make sure there's nothing growing on the nerve. They could do it now but even if they found something, they wouldn't do anything for it until after the baby came anyway. I've gotten use to it to where I don't really notice it in my daily activities. I still have a "ringing" but to me it's more like muffled white noise. I suppose if this is the worse thing that I deal with, I've gotten off pretty easy. Thankfully I'm still healthy, the baby's still healthy, and I have a good thing to use against her when she's older about how she's such a trouble maker that she caused Mommy to go deaf in one ear! :)
I've had requests to put some pictures up of my belly so next post, I'll get the Bump Progression pictures out and talk about our first shower we recently had.

Finding out
My first trimester of pregnancy was really uneventful and I really enjoyed it being that way. I got sick no more than 4 or 5 times and it went away as fast as it came on. Thankfully I didn't have any of the all day nausea, etc that some ladies have to deal with. Probably the biggest "symptom" I had was being tired. I'd come home from work, take an hour and a half nap, make dinner, then go to bed at 9. Jason was happy when I got past that since I'm sure he was bored all evening with nobody to talk to.
So moving into the second trimester, I was looking forward to it. Everyone says that's when you feel your best and you actually begin to look pregnant instead of like you just finished off the lunch buffet at Pizza Hut. I started noticing my "bump" around week 15 (give or take). I managed for about a month to wear my regular clothes with a rubber band as an extension or used a "Be Band" from Target (which was handy). As I was closing in on the half way mark of week 20 is when I really transitioned into maternity clothes. Thankfully, I didn't have to buy too many. I had wonderful donations from my sister, cousins and one of my nurses to help get me through. I first felt the baby move on April 8th. Well, that was what I counted as the first time because I was more sure that it was a kick or jab versus a gas bubble or tummy gurgle. It's really neat to feel that movement but since it's still sporatic early on it made me anxious that something was wrong when I didn't feel it again for a day or two. It took a couple weeks before Jason was able to feel the baby. As soon as I got his hand on my belly, the kicking would stop and of course as soon as he moved away, kicking resumed.
I had my big ultrasound on April 13th. Jason and I had talked about whether we wanted to find out or not and he didn't care one way or the other. Being the planning person that I am, I wanted to find out so that I could get things together without having to worry about alternatives. I give props to those who don't find out - it probably is really fun to hear "it's a ____!" on delivery day but I don't think I could hold out that long. So we go in and the ultrasound tech was really nice. She took us on a tour of the head, spine, heart, limbs and then to the goods (or lack therof). Being sure to confirm it from all angles, she told us we were expecting A GIRL! Now I've heard all the stories how someone had a friend who had 3 ultrasounds that all said girl and out came a boy so I asked how accurate are these things today. She assured me that she could distinguish the anatomy well and if she had any doubt about what it was, she wouldn't make the determination. After the ultrasound we had my monthly check up with the doctor. He said he hadn't seen her miss yet so that's good. However, if we are lucky enough to disrupt her accuracy record, we'll let them know. :)
We called the family to let them all know then spent the rest of the day shopping around. That was the first time we went and really looked at some of the things at Babies R Us and Baby Depot to see if we could figure out what we'd need eventually. I'm sure all the sales people in those stores know exactly who are first timers...we all walk aimlessly through the store looking clueless about what we're looking at and about half way through, just quit and decide it'll be easier to bring someone back with us who's done this before to guide us through.
Now that we know that we're having a girl, we begin going through the baby name book, I begin thinking about color schemes for the baby's room and the planning has begun. We did meet with the lady who is making our crib bedding and picked out our fabrics so she could get started.
